The free trade agreement between South Korea and Peru takes effect today. No, I don’t think we’ll start seeing more ceviche and maca on Seoul menus, but one item that will be affected is Peruvian coffee. Korea’s coffee culture has vastly matured, but the prices remain exceedingly high. I’m curious to see if we’ll start seeing a drop in coffee prices or if would be like some experts have predicted about the EU FTA and wine–that importers and distributors will just use the opportunity to keep their prices the same while taking more profit.
