You walk into Hahoe expecting a folk village. What you get is a village. Someone’s grandmother is hanging laundry over a fence older than your country, and half the tour bus behind you is photographing the thatched roof instead of noticing the life happening under it.
That’s the difference this trip is built on. Andong kept its Confucian academies running as academies, not as backdrops for a fifteen-minute photo stop. Gyeongju buried its kings in mounds you can still walk between, no glass case, no gift shop at the exit.
Two nights is enough time to stop noticing the contrast and start just being there.

Day 1 — Seoul to Andong
Confucian Korea in the morning, a living village by afternoon.
KTX to Andong. Morning in downtown Andong, the market first, jjimdak lunch right there, then a short walk to a few sites tied to Andong’s Neo-Confucian heritage, the Joseon Dynasty’s intellectual core, close enough to reach on foot from lunch. Afternoon transfer out to Hahoe Folk Village itself, the working village side of the contrast, farmland and lived-in homes instead of academies and ancestral shrines. Check into Rakkojae Hanok Hotel Hahoe by evening, dinner at the hotel, first night on an ondol floor.

Day 2 — Hahoe to Gyeongju
A second morning in the village, then the Silla capital by nightfall.
Hotel’s just up the road from Hahoe, so the morning stays unhurried, more time in the village itself rather than rushing off. We can work with guests ahead of time to line up their stay with the Hahoe byeolsingut talnori mask dance performance calendar, so this is where it happens when the timing’s right. In the afternoon, a van from the Gyeongju hotel arrives to bring you over.
Check into The Nine Hanok Stay, evening with a personalized introduction to the city itself, the old Silla capital, open-air in a way no other Korean city really is. Last group had teenagers, so the evening turned into go-kart racing between historic stops. Another group gets more of the tombs and temples, or a slower, quieter night built for two. The city shapes itself around who’s actually there.

Day 3 — Gyeongju to Seoul
Royal tombs before the KTX back.
Morning at Daereungwon, walking between the burial mounds rather than viewing them from behind a rope. Lunch is hwangnam-ppang, Gyeongju’s local sweet red bean pastry. Afternoon KTX back to Seoul.
