Here is a great way to spend your Saturday afternoon in Seoul. Homebrew Korea is having another homebrew competition, and it’s all-you-can-drink for W35,000 (at the door).

Homebrewing has been getting some respect in Korea lately. And it has been getting some devoted hobbyists. When Koreans put their minds and hearts into hobbies, great results happen. I’ve noticed that a hobby isn’t a hobby in Korea. It’s an obsession, whether it’s the mountain biker fully decked out in gear, the weekend soccer player who travels around the country in tourneys, or the coffee enthusiast whose life ambition is to create the perfect cup.

I went to one of these competitions last year, and the beers were the best in Korea by far. There were even some surprising and pleasant flavors. I’ve gotten word that around twice as many beers, as in over forty, are competing this time.

And guess what?

I have the quite enviable job of being one of the judges.
