Sunbi mandu started at the Yongin local market from '80s and got a name in the area. They launched the direct management store in Hongdae. This store is small, but they said there are no empty seats at lunch time during work days.
The owner directly serves the food in a decent manner. As for the interior, the table setting style is also neat. It’s true that when you eat with your eyes before your mouth. The dishes are harmonious with their historical mood.
They provide a steady amount of food a day. If the food is sold out, the store is closed. They don't use ingredients from the day before and prepare everything fresh each morning with local ingredients.
Jjolmyeon is one of the most popular dishes. The noodles are thinner than usual and sticky and are chewier. The sauce is spicy but not too much. If you have it, and it's too hot, then you can have spoons of warm beef leg bone soup.
The mandu is like what I used to eat when I was a teenager at the local market. There is a mixture of lots of cellophane noodles and vegetables, like carrot and leeks, moreso than meat. The mandu skins are also thicker than usual. So if you like thick mandu, this is for you.
Kimchi and fried kimchi mandu are more popular than the meat ones. The owner say to customers whenever he serves fried mandu with scissors very kindly, “Be careful. It’s so hot. Slice before you have one.” I think since the mandu skins are is thick, the fried ones are the best suited and popular.
The name says "30 years," and it deserves it.
