That’s was Roboseyo trying to put a positive spin on these little morsels. I think he was psychologically preparing himself to try something that was new not only to him but to me. Everyone who reads this blog knows that I’m a big fan of gobchang 곱창, small intestines grilled with onions and Chinese chives. But the lady at this place asked us if we wanted to try something different: makchang 막창.
Now, you could kind of fool yourself into thinking gobchang isn’t really poop chute because it isn’t at the end of the road yet. But makchang is large intestine. There’s no prettying up this one. And it really isn’t for the faint of heart. In fact, it may be a while before I try these again.
The thing is, they generally taste good. They sort of look like rolled up bacon, and they sort of have that flavor. They’re juicy and fatty with a nice crispy outer layer. But I came across one in there that tasted a little too, um, barn-like. I think that ruined the rest of the day.
I really want to try these buggers in Daegu. That’s where they’re known to be good. There’s also this place I found near my ‘hood that sells makchang and grilled pig face (literal translation). Just give me a little time to recover from this other experience.
Oh, why was I in the Ewha University area? MBC was doing a little thing that will show Wednesday night. I honestly don’t have the details of the airing yet but will post as soon as I find out.
UPDATE: Heh, heh… just found out that there’s a strike going on at MBC. The latest I hear is Friday at 6:50 p.m.
